Particle Blue’s sound, described as 'hybrid electro-pop', is the combined creative effort of Antoine Vella and Claire Tonna. Since their inception as an experimental ‘electro-pop duo’; as they have become to be known, Particle Blue have come a long way from producing soundscapes to unwind at their own DIY studio. Their influences are mainly Yazoo, Human League, Daft Punk, Air, Tomita, Kraftwerk, I.F., F.S.O.L and the great genius Giorgio Moroder. Their output is a particular sound that evokes today’s contemporary music with a good hint of the late 70’s early new wave electronica sound.

Claire sings, executes most of the songwriting and musical arrangements, and plays the bass and guitars. Unlike Claire, Antoine adores the hectic sequencing involved. He looks after the sound programming, production and aesthetics. Antoine is a big fan of old ARPs and electronics. The duo combines soulful vocals with a wide range of electronic and acoustic instruments using an experimental songwriting approach in the most flexible way.

Particle Blue have also worked with other artists from diverse musical backgrounds, some of whom are also featured in their first full length CD album ‘Generation Hope’. The latter was officially launched in August 2004, during an exclusive crowded event in which people from different musical arenas gave credit to their insightful style and realized their aim of bridging lifestyles through music. This inherent buoyancy, generated tracks that combine Electro-pop with tinges of Dub, Techno and Ambient. It has fashioned signature tunes and club extended mixes that led Particle Blue to perform alongside alternative bands, in clubbing events and chill out sessions in various venues.

In 2005 Particle Blue have performed in exclusive clubs in London and Reading and have worked on collaborations with Electro, Techno and Deep House DJs. They were busy on the Vital Waves Project; a music-scientific experience geared towards sound therapy. Two new demos have been completed and produced by Particle Blue– the tracks on ‘Electro Synth Heroes’ are club orientated tracks projected from live performances and mixes. While ‘Baby Kiss Me’ is delicate and graceful with a passionate songwriting approach.

Presently Particle Blue are developing new material and innovative sounds gathered in a project entitled ‘Trinity’, they are once again set up for experiencing another world of visions and inspirations.

For the 2006 Gaia Fest, Particle Blue are featuring Christine Farrugia (Backing Vocals), Mike Brigulio (Drums - Dripht), Mark Abela z-zizza (Percussions - Zizza Ensamble), Ruth Abela (Saxophone - Zizza Ensamble & The ISkandal), Stephanie Degiorgio (Tambourine) and Marie Claire Camiliieri (Installation dance) for an exclusive atmospheric ambient performance. Welcome to Dripht..... rock'n'roll meets rebellion, art meets agitation. The militant funk is the fuel that feeds the Dub-Reggae-In-Punky-Hiphop-Tempo.

In 2004 Dripht released its self-titled debut EP, which was recorded at Temple Studios and Produced and engineered by award-winning David Vella (of Rammstein, Philip Boa and the Voodoo Club and Beangrowers fame). Consisting of three numbers and a video, the Dripht EP sold out within days upon its release.

Dripht hit the airwaves in Malta and won the hearts of leading music critics. The debut single ‘Mark Barnsley’ had massive airplay in top Maltese radio stations and quickly climbed the charts. The song won the 'Best Single' award by popular vote in the Bay Radio Music Awards 2004 organised by Malta's most popular radio station ( www.bay.com.mt ). Dripht was also nominated in the 'Best Newcomer' category during the Bay Radio Music Awards in 2004 and 'Best Band' and 'Best Song Ever' in the 2005 Bay Radio Awards.

In 2005 Dripht released it’s second EP, ‘Global Warning’, consisting of five numbers, recorded at Temple Studios and produced by David Vella. These include singles 'Rocking to Resist' and 'Guy on TV'. Like its predecessor, this EP sold out, forcing the band to re-issue it.

Both Dripht’s EPs were released in partnership with Independent Maltese label Reciprocal Records. Dripht is currently seeking a record deal.

Dripht is one of Malta’s most exciting live rock bands, attracting large and diverse audiences for its live concerts, and creating a massive wall of sound and energy during its performances. The band has played live in a myriad of concerts, including shows headlined by itself as well as participation in top punk, metal and rock festivals in Malta. Dripht is preparing itself for international live performances in the coming future.

Dripht is made up of Nick Morales (Vocals, Guitar), Mike Briguglio (Drums), Fre (Bass) and Daniel il-Flambu (Guitar). Check them out: www.dripht.com

'Fakawi have been around the local music scene for the past years and their loyal following has been constantly increasing.

The name of the band comes from a ‘lost’ tribe of the African plains and reflects perfectly the perennial state which the band is in. Their music ranges from reggae to rock, from funk to soppy tunes, from soul to one hit wonders, always making sure that the Fakawi stamp is embedded on each track, usually in the form of lost chords or doctored lyrics.

Famous for their onstage antics and megalomaniac behaviour (they share the same lawyer as Pete Doherty), Fakawi are currently on a quest to break the record set by Kate Bush (12 years) for the longest time to record an album. Work on this opus is proceeding slowly although the band is convinced that the wait is worthwhile. They will be assisted by Mr. Parsons who whilst working on Fakawi’s new material, has found a couple of hours to jazz up this year’s edition of the Malta Jazz Festival. Thanks Alan.

Fakawi is made up of Paul on vocals and guitar, Antonio on bass, Mark on keys, Ryan on percussions and Reuben on drums.'

Behind the broadening horizons of the European music scene you will find the Beangrowers. Hailing from the Mediterranean island of Malta, this female-fronted three-piece has become known for their off-the-wall tunes, an infectious mixture of guitar-based pop and quirky keyboard sounds: think Blondie meets Joy Division. "Keeper of the angelic vocal chords" - frontwoman/guitarist Alison Galea is up there alongside PJ, Liz Fraser and Nina Persson.

If you like your pop-rock short, sharp and to the fuzz-guitar driven point, then you'll love the Beangrowers. But there's more: the seedy, jazzy noir narratives on "The Priest"; the bitter-sweet Cardigans-y "Waiting"; and intense, brooding numbers such as "Analyse". The beauty of it is how the band has merged the greyness of its post-punk alternative influences with sparkling choruses or even breezy uplifting melodies.

With 3 albums under their belt, Beangrowers are to date best known in continental Europe. Based in Berlin for a number of years, they were signed to Rough Trade's German division and built a strong fan-base through video rotation on VIVA and MTV Central while touring with the likes of Elbow, Tindersticks, Stereophonics, dEUS and Trash Can Sinatras. Fans include award-winning director Wim Wenders (Buena Vista Social Club, Wings of Desire, Million Dollar Hotel) who used their music for his latest movie "Land of Plenty".

They wowed audiences in the USA when they visited in 2004 and 2005, playing the SXSW and the legendary Sine' club in New York. Their latest album "Dance Dance Baby" has now been released in Germany and Australia, with a forthcoming release in the USA.

The Beangrowers will release their UK debut single "You Are You Are" in April on Series 8 Records (formally Global Warming). The album will be out in June. Find out more on www.beangrowers.net
